Hollywood monster movies are big business at the moment, so looking to try and cash in on this resurgence are Ralph Winter and Terry Botwick. This producing duo are looking at releasing a Frankenstein franchise (a Frankenchise?) based on Dean Koontz bestselling novels, that see a modern day twist on the classic Frankenstein story.
The general plot is that a pair of detectives encounter Frankenstein’s monster (called Deucalion in this story) while investigating a murder. This then leads them to a bizarre array of ‘engineered’ humans.
Sounds interesting enough. I quite like the idea of a modern day Frankenstein, it’s certainly original (does Edward Scissorhands count?). I haven’t read the novels though, so can’t really give much more of an opinion on it. The producing duo do have this to say though:
These books have enough twists and turns to keep the public coming back to the theaters for many years to come,
So they’re pretty confident that it’s got longevity enough for more than one film. But then they said that about The Golden Compass, and what happened to that franchise?
