Why I’ll be going to see G.I. Joe

I’ve made the decision to go and see G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra this week. It’s been a tough one, and I know I’m going to be left feeling angry with myself for seeing it. But there’s been so much bad press surrounding G.I. Joe that I feel it’s my duty to go and see it, just so I can say ‘Yes, it really was awful’.

So here’s the main reason’s why I’ll be going to see G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra

  • I’m not a G.I. Joe fanboy

I was never a big G.I. Joe fan as a child. It didn’t really catch on over here in the UK. I was more of a M.A.S.K fan. So I have no emotional attachment to it like I did with Transformers. I think this could allow me to see the film in a better light as I’ve heard that it bears little resemblance to the cartoon it was based on.

  • I want to prove the critics wrong

I rarely listen to critics. If anything it only makes me want to see something more just to prove them wrong. With G.I. Joe I’ve heard so many bad reviews that I have to see it for myself, just to see if they’re wrong.

  • I liked The Mummy

That’s pretty much the only other film that Stephen Sommers has done (and The Mummy 2, but that doesn’t count), and I liked that, So if I liked The Mummy, logically I might like G.I. Joe… right?

  • My expectations are extremely low

If I go and see something with really low expectations, chances are I might like it because I’m not expecting much.

  • Christopher Eccleston is in it

He was awesome in Dr Who and he can really act. So he could be the one thing that saves this film. Look how Alan Rickman saved Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Without him you’d just have Kevin Costner and that really annoying Bryan Adams song.
