It looks like Sony is starting to move forward with developing Spider-Man spinoff, Venom. According to Variety, negotiations have begun with Spider-Man 4 writer Gary Ross to rewrite the script and maybe even direct.

The question everyone wants to know though is will actor Topher Grace - the guy who played Venom in Spider-Man 3 – be returning to the role?…

Thankfully no he won’t.

The plan is to do a complete reboot of the story and start from the beginning. Which seems like a good idea because Spider-Man 3 was really bad so I’d want to distance myself as far away from it as possible.

I think Venom could make for an interesting film, if done right. Everyone is sick of the usual superhero characters, but what makes Venom exciting is he’s an anti-hero. We’re unsure if he’ll take things too far and we know he doesn’t have the moral responsibility of Spidey, Batman or Superman.

But with a planned release date of 2011 for Spider-Man 4, I wouldn’t hold my breath for Venom anytime before 2012.
