They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Does this rule apply to film titles?
Variety are reporting that Dreamworks have purchased the rights to Michael Besman’s pitch for Wife vs. Ninja, which centres on a Long Long Island housewife who discovers that the beautiful young intern who recently stole her scientist husband is actually a bloodthirsty ninja assassin intent on stealing his work.
With a title like this it’s hard not to judge it as something that will end up straight in the discount DVD section of the local supermarket. What’s slightly perking my interest though is Besman’s past work. Under his belt he has About Schmidt and The Opposite of Sex, so he doesn’t normally do ‘low-brow humor’.
I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that you shouldn’t judge this film by the title. But let’s wait and see how this one develops.
